The Disciples of Jesus had a power that way too many Christians are strangers to, and to that which actually belongs to Church as it did to the Disciples. That power comes to us and every Believer in the Lord Jesus Christ through the “Name of Jesus.”
There are people today who are involved in all kinds of debates concerning the Name of God and the Name of Jesus, but regardless of what they may say, there is one thing that holds true today, and that’s that the Name of Jesus has not lost any of it’s power throughout the centuries. There is a reason for that, and it because the Name of Jesus holds the power over any and everything this universe can offer.
The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 2:9-11, “Wherefore God also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name. That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
What a powerful statement that Paul writes to Philippian Believers! Paul understood this revelation, and this statement should make the Church want to search to find how much power and authority Jesus Himself actually had. The measure of His ability is the measure of the value of that Name, and all that is invested in that Name belongs to you and me, because Jesus gave us the unqualified use of His Name!
In John’s Gospel chapter 16 and verse 24 Jesus gives the Believers of His day some valuable information by saying, “Hitherto (or up till now) have you asked nothing in My Name, ask and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.”
Jesus here, not only gives us the authority to use His Name, but that the prayer which is prayed according to the Word in His Name, will receive special attention from the Father. Jesus goes on to say in John 16:23, “In that day (the day in which He will longer be here on earth but seated at the right hand of the Father) you shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in My Name, He will give it to you!”
This puts prayer on a purely legal basis because He has given us the legal right to use His Name. As we take our rights and privileges in the New Covenant, and pray in Jesus’ Name, it passes out of our hands into the hands of Jesus, and then He assumes the responsibility of that prayer. As Jesus stood at the entrance of the tomb of Lazarus, He make a very powerful statement.
John 11:41-42 says, “Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I knew that You hear Me always, but because of the people who stand by I said it, that they may believe that You have sent Me.””
In other words, we know that the Father always hears Jesus, and when we pray in Jesus Name, it is as though Jesus Himself were doing our praying for us—He takes our place. Simply put, PRAYER IS A BUSINESS PROPOSITION! This places prayer not only on legal grounds, but it makes prayer a business proposition. When we pray, we take Jesus’ place here to carry our His will, and He takes our place before the Father. He said that it should not only cover our prayer life, but it can also be used in our combat against the unseen forces that surround us.
I want to encourage you to stay in faith. Stay in the Word of God every day. This is the only thing that will keep the believer in the days we are living in. Keep INCREASE ON YOUR MIND, KEEP SPEAKING INCREASE, and the right things and making the right confessions of faith. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; and remember “God loves you; we love you and JESUS IS LORD!”
