In Philippians 3:13-14, the Apostle Paul says, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
This is not the time for us to look back and glory in our past accomplishments, laurels and achievements, or even at your past failures and defeats. But this is the time to look ahead at the greater things that God has in store for us. And in order for you and me to do this, it going to take faith for us to see the promises of God come to pass. As the children of Israel were about to cross over the Jordan River and enter the Promised Land, God had something to say to them through His man Joshua.
Let’s look at Joshua 1:1-9. “Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister saying, ‘Moses My servant is dead, now arise, go over Jordan, you and all these people, to the land which I give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given to you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and Lebanon even unto the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea [Mediterranean Sea] toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you, I will not fail you, nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people shall you divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the Law, which Moses My servant commanded you, turn not from it to the right hand or to the left that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage, be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
God knew that it would take faith for them to possess everything He had promised them. It’s no different today for you and me. I like what Jesus said in Luke 2:29, “I must be about my Father’s business!” It’s of utmost importance that we are about the Father’s Business. And we must do this by living and walking in faith.
In 2 Corinthians 4:18 Paul says, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Then in 2 Corinthians 5:7, he says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Let’s look at Mark 11:11-14; 20-24. “And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the Temple and when He had looked around upon all things, and now the evening had come, He went out to Bethany with the twelve. And on the next day, when they came from Bethany, He was hungry. And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, He came, if haply he might find anything on it, and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said to it, ‘No man shall eat fruit from you hereafter forever.’ And His disciples heard it…And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance said to Him, ‘Master, look at the fig tree which You cursed is withered away.’ And Jesus answering said to them, ‘Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be removed, and be cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe [in his heart] that those things which he says shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he says. Therefore I say unto you, what things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.’”
This is faith in operation, and it’s Jesus showing us how to apply faith to our lives. If we truly believe God’s Word, then we will act as though it’s true and it will come to pass! I want to encourage you to stay in faith, stay in prayer, stay in the Word every day, make your daily confession, pray in the spirit for our nation, our leaders, and all who are in authority, pray for the peace of Jerusalem; and remember “God loves you; we love you and JESUS IS LORD!”
